Misplaced Imagination

March 17, 20232 min read

Imagine you’re a kid.

You’ve been delivered to a playground to play for the afternoon.

You get out of the car and look around to see that the equipment is kind of dilapidated, and things are really falling apart.

You’d rather play at your favourite playground, the one down the street from your house. It’s filled with the laughter of playmates, and that kick-ass spinning thing (oh and it’d be sacrilege not to mention those high-flying swings that the new municipal safety cops haven’t spotted to replace yet 😜, you know, the ones that send you high enough to make you feel like you’re flying AND like you might throw up 🤢😝).

But hey, you can run around and find a way to play in ANY environment.

It’s just what you do 😉

There’s someone there, not your ideal playmate, but hey you can make friends with anyone if it means you can play together 😍

Well, I’m sure you’re onto me, that’s exactly how your imagination works! It’ll play wherever you let it. If fear is the only playmate it has, then that’s who it’ll play with!

That’s just what it does! It’s not picky, it just wants to use its energy to play and create✨

Oh, here’s one more picture-based analogy for those of you like me, who need to nail down an idea with a few good pictures 😉

I have a good friend who used to breed border collies. Just imagine the difference of letting THAT sort of energy loose into a pasture of animals to herd OR

freeing them into your living room 😳

By now I think I’ve driven the idea home, right?

Now my challenge to you….. when you catch yourself in the worry playground, or you realize that the border collies are reaping havoc on your internal living room, can you remember there’s another option?

Can you open up a door to another playground, one that you’d love to have some energy injected into?

Hint, you will have to spend some time animating that reality to life first, you know, so that door has a handle ✨😉 but you probably won’t be surprised that if you dig deep enough the fear, your imagination is playing with has more to do with your fear of your own brilliance and divine power than of your unworthiness and lack 😉

What fear does your imagination play with the most?
